Questions people ask

If the answer you need is not here, ring us. We would rather spend five minutes on the phone than have you book the wrong van.

Booking and paying

How much do I pay to book?

A booking deposit of £100, by card, at the moment you book. It is the same whichever van you take and however long for, it comes off the total, and it is not refundable. The balance falls due 21 days before you collect, and we email a payment link a week before that. Book inside 21 days and the full amount is taken at once.

Is there anything else to pay?

A refundable security deposit of £500, taken when you collect the van and returned within 5 working days of it coming back undamaged. Nothing is taken from it without a photo and an explanation. Fuel too, if you bring it back short: see below.

Can I cancel?

More than 21 days out, you lose the £100 booking deposit and nothing else. Inside that, the balance has already been taken and we refund whatever we manage to re-let the dates for. We would rather move your dates than keep your money, so ask.

Is there a minimum stay?

3 nights for most of the year, and 5 nights through the peak season, late June to early September. The calendar will not let you pick a shorter run, so you cannot book one by accident.

Driving

What licence do I need?

An ordinary category B car licence covers everything we hire, because none of it is over 3,500kg. You need to be 25 to 75 and to have held the licence for 2 years. Bring the plastic card and a DVLA check code.

Are they hard to drive?

The Transporters drive like a tall estate car. Ultimate is longer and taller, so the first hour takes concentration and then it stops being a thing. We walk you round the dimensions at handover, whichever one you take.

Can I take one abroad?

Yes, with the European travel cover extra added at booking. It extends the insurance and breakdown cover and gets you the VE103 certificate the ferry and the border will ask for. Tell us at least two weeks ahead.

On the road

How far can I go?

150 miles a night are included, pooled across the hire, so a week gives you 1050 miles to spend as you like. Beyond that it is 30p a mile and we settle up when you get back.

Can I bring a dog?

In any van, with the pet extra added. It covers the deep clean afterwards and comes with a boot liner and a water bowl. Pets off the beds, please, and none left alone in the van.

Do I need to bring bedding?

Yes. We do not provide it. No duvets, no pillows, no sheets. Every van has mattress toppers on the beds, so bring your own bedding or a sleeping bag each.

How does the fuel work?

The van leaves us with a full tank and we need it back full. If it comes back short we fill it and charge you what the pump charged us that day, off the receipt, with nothing added. There is a full gas bottle for the cooker too, and you do not pay for the gas you use.

What if something breaks?

Call us first, then the breakdown line if we do not pick up. UK wide roadside and recovery is included. If a fault is ours and it stops the trip, we refund the nights you lose.

Collection

When do I pick up and drop off?

Collection is 3pm to 6pm and return is 9am to 11am, which gives us the middle of the day to turn a van round. Both can flex if the diary allows, so ask when you book rather than on the day.

Where do I leave my car?

In the yard, free, for the length of the hire. It is gated and covered by CCTV but it is not a secure compound, so take anything valuable with you.

How long does handover take?

About half an hour. We run through the gas, the water, the heating, the electrics and the bed, then you drive it round the block with one of us in the passenger seat if you want to.

Still not sure?

Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Outside that, leave a message and we will come back to you the next working day.
